What I Take Every Night for Better Sleep and a Calmer Mind

There’s a lot of noise out there when it comes to sleep. Tips, tricks, miracle "sleep hygiene" products and routines. But for me, better sleep didn’t come from a hack, it came from a habit.

 

Every night, I take magnesium.

 

It’s not trendy. It’s not expensive. But it’s made a quiet, consistent difference that I knew deep down I needed.

I used to think being tired was just part of life - especially as a peri, and later menopausal mum of three with a lot on my plate. But I started noticing I wasn’t just tired…I was edgy.

 

My mind would spin when I finally lay down in bed, running through everything that had/could/might happen and what I needed to do/say/finish/start. I’d finally fall asleep, only to wake up half an hour later and then consistently throughout the night. And I'd start the next day feeling headachey, low and like I hadn’t rested at all.


And honestly? I thought that was just how it had to be. Something I had to simply put up with thanks to the joys of menopause and midlife.

Until I gave magnesium a proper go.

  • Quiet journaling if I’ve got the energy

  • Lavendar hand cream

  • No screens for 30 minutes before bed (not perfect, but I try!)
